High Road House - Review

NEW ENGLAND MEETS LEAFY west London at High Road House in Chiswick. An outpost of the ultra-cool members’ club Soho House, it checks all the boxes for a kick-back-and-relax stay.

Halfway between Heathrow and the West End – away from the city crowds but with plenty of glam neighbourhood buzz – High Road House is a boutique retreat offering guests the best of both worlds.

There’s a screening room for watching new movie releases and a wittily named Playpen for indoor games (the table football variety), a lively brasserie and a chic upstairs restaurant for first-rate British fare.
Bullocks and Cheeky Cows

Designed by Isle Crawford, all-white rooms have a fresh-laundered Scandinavian feel. Painted wood panelling underlines the Nordic-New-England feel, while bold flashes of lime green and scarlet set off the crisply clutter-free surrounds.

Big beds are piled with snowy bedlinen while bathrooms flaunt huge drench power showers and Cowshed body care products – whether you feel like a scrub-up with Cheeky Cow or a bracing body wash with Bullocks.

Retro radios and furnishings – with pegs replacing wardrobes – are teamed with plenty of technics: you’ll find a digital TV, DVD player, Sky Plus channels and wi-fi.  Drawers stashed with munchies and 1950s sweeties are perfect for watching late-night movies together.

We loved the Playroom, with its rolltop bedside bath for two, six-foot wide bed and white-white-white decor splashed with zesty citrus green. Tiny and Small rooms using wood and natural materials for a nicely retro look are similarly light and bright, and ideal for those on tighter budgets.

Ready to explore? Downstairs At The House is a late-night den with regular DJ nights and music. Two floors up, Upstairs At The House offers a sleek-and-chic members’ bar – perfect for cocktails – together with the restaurant. A much favoured spot for Sunday brunch, the Brasserie at High Road House spills out on to the pavement next door. It’s a great place for all-day dining.

Refreshingly friendly – and attitude free – young staff provide sharp London service here in a relaxed setting – just the ticket.
