There’s an outside decked garden – perfect for a Pimms and lemonade if the weather’s warm. Your butler is on hand to help with packing/unpacking, running a bath, shoe polishing, shopping, whisky tastings and more.

13 rooms and five suites.

Special features
All have large flatscreen TVs, iPod docks and Penhaligon bathtime products, while some have rolltop baths and his n’ hers sinks. There's no tea/coffee tray, but your butler will be happy to serve coffee and tea (made with real leaves) in your room at any time.

Pillow Talk
The Terrace suites all have their own private street entrance, and Marchmont comes with its own jacuzzi bath and four poster bed. Our favourite Junior suites include Abercromby (with four poster) and spacious Charlotte, with its restful copper, chocolate and cream colour scheme.

Eat & Drink

Dining in
Treat yourselves to dinner at The Howard’s intimate  Atholl restaurant for some delicious  Scottish cooking. House specialities include roast rack of Pentland lamb served with spiced aubergine, seasonal vegetables and Parmesan mash, and seared Loch Dhuart sea trout with wilted kale, artichoke puree, Shetland black potato and rosemary jus.

Can't make dinner? Afternoon teas are incredibly popular here, so be sure to book. You can enjoy the full works plus a glass of champers.

Full breakfast is served until 10 am (weekdays) or 10.30 (weekends).

Activities
Walk around Edinburgh Castle and gaze over the city's rooftops from its lofty ramparts. Take in hilltop views of the city from Arthur’s Seat, see the best of contemporary art at the National Gallery of Modern Art or head off to Leith, the city’s old docks, for a tour of the royal yacht Britannia.

Wander down the Royal Mile to Holyrood House, or divert to the National Gallery of Scotland – home to a wealth of famous Scottish and international art, from Da Vinci to Tracy Emin. Head to Princes Street and George Street for some retail therapy.
