After a Principal suite with all the trimmings? Early booking essential!
12 suites including three with a hot tub and terrace.
All suites have DVD players, kingsize beds, goose feather duvets and Egyptian cotton sheets. The three Principal suites are naturally the biggest and best.
The three Principal suites with private terraces are well worth splashing out for. The Deluxe suites are also beautifully done: we loved Betjeman, while Shelley has a jacuzzi bath in the middle of the room. Among the Superior suites, Eliot has a wow-factor bathroom.
Eat & Drink
Beamed Le Talbooth restaurant (five minutes away) serves modern English cuisine amid crisp white linen, smart leather chairs and Zoffany fabrics. Expect award-winning food and spot-on service: tuck into roast lobster tail and monkfish, breast of quail en croute and Valrhona chocolate Black Forest gateau. Try the hand-dived scallops, the roast lobster tail cooked in vermouth or maybe a Chateaubriand for two.
You can dine on the terrace beneath Le Talbooth's signature curved sail in the summer months – and if you over indulge, there's a courtesy car to take you back. Come here on summer Sundays for a riverside BBQ with a jazz or steel band.
Breakfast is served in the Garden Room until 10:30am. Dine out on the terrace if it's sunny.
Available morning and evening. Daytime fare at the Maison includes Club sandwiches, wraps and freshly baked scones.
See & Do
Trawl for antiques in pretty Dedham, where you can stroll along the river – just pick up a walking map. Admire the equestrian prints and paintings of Sir Alfred Munnings in the museum of his name just outside the village.
This is Constable country, so don’t miss a trip to the painter's birthplace at Flatford Mill in the village of East Bergholt, where there's also a lock and barge dock. Earn your lunch by rowing along the River Stour with a picnic and a bottle of chilled white wine – there's a boating station in Dedham. If you prefer salt water, staff can arrange for you to hire a sailboat from The Pier at Harwich and head out to sea.
There's every excuse for some pampering in Maison Talbooth's treatment rooms. Opt for a side-by-side chillout and detox massage, some oxyjet skin-smoothing therapy, a sea mud wrap or a salt scrub and full body mapping. You'll also have full use of the hotel's heated outdoor pool and hot tub. There's also a tennis court and a pool house with sofas, a surround-sound TV and an honesty bar.
