White House Manor Prestbury
OWNERS Ryland and Judith Wakeham have infused this Cheshire Georgian manor house in the village of Prestbury (top of the county's des-res enclaves) with lashings of enviable style. Eleven brilliantly conceived bedrooms in the heart of upmarket Cheshire's Golden Triangle let guests choose from the sensuous to the traditional, and the flamboyant to the downright decadent.
Feeling naughty? There’s the Crystal room, with its stunning chandelier, whirlpool bath, Monsoon power shower and tile TV, whose four-poster is trimmed in icicle glass beads. Opulent Aphrodite (aptly named after the goddess of love) is a real lovers’ lair, while Campion boasts a four-poster swathed in chiffon.
Regal cerise and gold taffetas are the theme of Minerva, while Earl Grey is done out in Wedgwood china-plate blues. The Millennium room has a huge glass bed and wicked Turkish steam room – a 21st century harem for two. The Coach House meanwhile – all muted browns and sultry golds – has a state-of-the art bathroom and its own private entrance.
Private sanctuaries
Individual pieces of art, furniture and collectibles have been chosen with consummate care to create sumptuous private sanctuaries perfect for putting up the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign.
While there's no in-house restaurant, there are plenty of good places to eat within a few minutes' walk in the village of Prestbury.
