There's a spacious entrance hall with a sweeping staircase and a welcoming check-in area with a wood burner, armchairs and library-book wall coverings. This room leads to the bright and airy breakfast room, which in turn overlooks a small garden.

Elegant bedrooms  – mostly white, and accented in blues, greens and gold – are set off with an eclectic mix of French antique style chairs and bedside tables, crisp white bedlinen and quirky touches. Plush fabrics and curtains ooze quality. Gleaming bathrooms are piled with huge fluffy towels and luxury REN shower gels, and there’s even a tea tray with Kit-Kats.

Ranging from snug doubles to a Deluxe Four Poster room, each of Grays' high-spec bedrooms has been stylishly done out and finished in calming shades of blue, beige and ivory. All are big on comfort, while retaining an intimate and homely feel.

Breakfast is served in the light and bright dining room, all done out in wide-awake blues and whites. Choices include smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, and oven-fresh pains au chocolat.
