Brindleys Boutique B&B

THERE’S A SUNNY, southern French feel to Brindleys Boutique B&B in the very British city of Bath. This chic new address has already been named one of Britain’s coolest places to stay.

Bursting with out-of-the-box freshness and run with verve by its family owners, Brindleys Boutique B&B is a visual treat from the moment you step through the gardens and across the threshold.

Set in a tree-lined street just outside Bath city centre, Brindleys has everything you’d want in a posh little B&B. Owners Michael and Sarah confess to being ardent Francophiles, and both decor and furnishings have a dreamy provençal feel that works a treat in this lofty Bath stone Victorian house.

Colours range from oyster and mink to pewter and ivory. Elegant rooms are set off with teardrop chandeliers and an eclectic mix of French antique style chairs and bedside tables, crisp white bedlinen and sea grass carpets. Plush fabrics and curtains ooze quality. Gleaming bathrooms are piled with huge fluffy towels and luxury REN shower gels, and there’s a tea tray with Kit-Kats ready to munch on.

French boudoirs

Ranging from snug Classic doubles to a Deluxe Super King, each of Brindley’s six bedrooms is beautifully styled and finished. The plushest is Room Three, a sumptuous high-ceilinged room with a grand, French style carved bed, triple bay windows, huge armchairs and a bathroom with side-by-side sinks. Striking original art adorns the walls.

King-bedded Bedroom One is done out in calming shades of blue and beige, while Room Two – all cool creams and biscuit – has a cream wrought iron bed. Snugly set into the eaves, Room Four is a Classic double with white painted furniture and Belgian fabrics, while Bedroom Five can be taken twinned or with a super kingsize bed. Bedroom Six is stylishly done out in a monochrome palette of charcoal and white.

Breakfast is served in the provençal style dining room, where a blackboard posts up some of the house specialities – among them local pork and herb sausages and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. Naturally there are excellent croissants and pains chocolat to be had, too.

Brindleys Boutique B&B is a brisk five minute walk here from Bath Abbey and the attractions of Georgian Bath, and just a few hundred yards from a pretty stretch of the Kennet and Avon canal.
