Il Sogno di Giulietta - Review
DIEHARD ROMANTICS retracing the footsteps of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet will enjoy bedding down in Il Sogno di Giulietta, at the historic heart of Verona.
Set in the courtyard of Juliet’s House and facing the famous balcony (“so romantic you'll want to throw yourself off” as one guest sighed), Il Sogno di Giulietta – which translates as Juliet’s Dream – has some swoon-worthy credentials for literary lovers.
Guests staying here can relive Shakespeare’s famous balcony scene for themselves (“Romeo, Romeo wherefore art thou Romeo?”), sipping a glass of wine while gazing across the courtyard to the house where Juliet reputedly lived, from the balcony of their own luxury lovenest.
Juliet’s balcony
Rooms at this elegantly restored relais look out onto Juliet’s balcony or onto Via Cappello, lined with elegant stores, in the centre of Verona. All boast painted beamed ceilings, luxurious furnishings, kingsize beds, plush drapes, antique rugs and eclectic objets d’art – plus jacuzzi bathtubs (many designed for double soaks) loaded with Bulgari lotions and potions. Some have balconies or a fireplace, and techno treats include flatscreen TVs, internet keyboards and wi-fi.
Honeymooners’ favourites (all looking out at Juliet’s house and balcony) include rooms such as Allodola, the balconied Il Sentiero, with its pillared bed, Luna with its beautiful carved bed and Il Cuore, with its panoramic rooftop views. Il Germoglio has the added appeal of a wellness bathroom on its upper floor with access to a private terrace overlooking the rooftops of Verona.
Gates to the courtyard of Juliet’s House – a tourist magnet during the day – are closed to the public in the evenings, allowing guests to enjoy the setting of Il Sogno di Giulietta undisturbed.
Breakfast is served in-room by friendly and helpful staff, who provide a full concierge service. They will be happy to help book tickets for Verona’s world-famous opera festival, trips to nearby Lake Garda or a host of other sightseeing options.
