Arriving at Villa Cimbrone is rather like walking into a living temple of art. We were instantly smitten by its incredible hilltop location, fabulous gardens and heart-stopping clifftop views.

Amenities
There's a huge heated outdoor pool with loungers, a beautiful portico restaurant with views down to the coast, and a can-do concierge desk where boat trips and other treats can be arranged. The gardens are open to the public during the day, so save them for evening and have them to yourselves. 

Good to know
Villa Cimbrone can't be reached from the village by car – be ready to walk through Ravello's narrow lanes.

Special features
Rooms are evocative and rich in period detail, with antique pieces and majolica tiles. The best look down over the valley, and some of the suites even have magnificent frescoed ceilings. Some have jacuzzi baths, and all have flatscreen TVs and internet access.

Take a bedroom facing out over the sea. No need to close the shutters then...

Eat & Drink

Dining in
Neapolitan and Mediterranean dishes using organic fruit and veg from the Villa's own gardens are on the menu in the elegant vaulted dining room. You can also dine out on the terrace on warm summer evenings.

Breakfast
Breakfast is served until 10.30am. Look out for the home-made marmalades.

Activities

See & Do
Wander around Ravello's pretty streets and alleyways and get a taxi down the hill. To really enjoy the Amalfi coast drive to Positano, take a local bus or a chauffeured car option – it's a white-knuckle cliff-edge ride and the road can be crowded in summer.  You can visit Capri or other spots on the coast by hydrofoil.

There's a spa just half a kilometre from the hotel.
