HOTEL FLORA
Little Venetian gem tucked in a hidden corner
THIS ONE-TIME 17TH CENTURY PALAZZO, tucked down a little alleyway just minutes from Piazza San Marco, is an old Venetian favourite. Venice’s
history comes up to the very doorstep of the Hotel Flora, filled with 18th and 19th century Venetian pieces, and melting with charm.
Rich covers are thrown over beds, wood floors are set off by rugs, sweeping curtains frame windows and intricate chandeliers provide focal points. A cosy sitting room is decorated in shades of red and an impressive marble staircase rises from the lobby.
But the winning card at Hotel Flora is the
jewel-like courtyard garden, with its climbing vines, ivy, laurel trees and profusion of summer flowers – just the place for aperitifs, breakfast or just scribbling postcards. Hands-on owners Ruggero and Gioele Romanelli and their
nothing’s-too-much-trouble staff keep things ticking like clockwork here and the guestbook speaks volumes: devotees taken with the Flora’s charm and hospitality clearly return here year after year.

Pretty courtyard
Hotel Flora's courtyard –
filled with flowers in summer – is just the place for a laid-back breakfast, a nightcap or for writing postcards over a cappuccino. Palazzo Contarini Fasan, home of Othello’s Desdemona, is next door. Piazza San Marco and the Grand Canal are just minutes away.
