HOTEL DANIEL

Intimate Parisian townhouse glowing with chinoiserie-chic

EAST MEETS WEST just off the Champs Elysées at Hotel Daniel, where you might feel you have wandered into a Marco Polo style Old Silk Road.

Intimate as a private house, Hotel Daniel glows with 18th century style Chinoiserie-chic. Step into an exotic world of handmade Chinese wallpapers, classical Toile de Jouy fabrics, oriental rugs and Arabian antiques. It’s all very bijou-boutique.

Inside this tall, six-storey townhouse, plump English armchairs, plush Khotan carpets, Turkish silver and Lebanese furnishings reflect the owners’ eclectic travels, setting off objets d’art made from fine glass, Chinese porcelain and mother-of-pearl. Mix all this with effortless French panache and you have a seductive sanctuary in the heart of Paris

Hotel Daniel’s bedrooms (while not huge) are luxurious and beautifully appointed. Open your eyes to overstuffed sofas, fabric covered walls, huge beds dressed in softest cottons, Middle Eastern wardrobes and curtains hand made in Reims.

Rooms with a view

Top floor deluxe rooms have views over the rooftops of Paris, while the fifth floor Daniel suite has its own balcony. Mirrored bathrooms – some tiled in Moroccan mosaics, others in Italian marble – are stocked with Molton Brown goodies, expensive French soaps, Dead Sea bath salts and expensively fluffy towels.

Downstairs in this intimate Parisian address, you’ll find exotic reception rooms with an oriental haute-couture feel. Sip a cocktail in the lounge, decorated with hand painted gilt glass panels depicting Japanese gardens. Shades of the exotic and elegant motifs continue through into the restaurant.

Hotel Daniel is in a quiet spot just a stone’s throw here from all the glitzy designer emporia of the Champs Elysées and the stores of rue du Faubourg St Honoré. You’re also minutes from the Tuileries gardens and in walking distance of the Eiffel tower and the Marais. Whatever your idea of a great stay in Paris – shopping, dining, trawling art galleries or strolling the great boulevards – it’s in a great location.

This alluring boutique hotel is made for special occasions. Expect impeccable, top-drawer service from well-versed and obliging staff, who know how to pull a few strings in the Parisian restaurant world.

Dining in
Dining in the sleek surroundings of Restaurant Daniel is a culinary treat. Start off with fresh asparagus with olive vinaigrette and a terrine of potatoes and mushrooms. No one cooks duck like the French so go for the caramelised duck breast with spices, semolina and almonds. Afterwards indulge your sweet tooth with caramelised apple tart with milk mousse.

Dining out
Foodies need only walk 50m down the road to try out the Michelin two starred Apicius – a firm favourite with Parisian gastronomes. Other great places include Bocconi, a friendly Italian restaurant just a few doors away, and Le Cou de la Girafe, just 30m away.
