AUSTWICK HALL

Luxury Yorkshire Dales manor house B&B

PEEPING ABOVE THE VILLAGE of Austwick in the midst of the Yorkshire Dales, Austwick Hall is the kind of boutique B&B you’d like to keep all to yourselves, from its log fires to its gorgeous grounds.

Brought back to life with flair and care by talented owners Eric and Michael, Austwick Hall dates back to the 12th century. This aristocratic and beautifully restored Yorkshire manor house is set in woodland and flowered gardens, with sweeping countryside views. It feels rather like a wealthy friend’s country retreat.

Tastefully restored and packed with period features, immaculate rooms have a mix of antiques and modern pieces, original artworks, rich fabrics and splashes of ethnic chic. Each has impressive views over the gardens and surrounding countryside.

Blue Room bathtime

Bedrooms come with all the comforts and individuality you would expect from a historic country house. You’ll find crisp Egyptian cotton bedding,  a DVD/CD player, fluffy bathrobes, Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries and more-ish chocolates to nibble on.

Decidedly decadent is the sprawling Blue room, with its vast bathroom and rolltop bath for two. Two others also have rolltop baths, while the remaining two sport a four poster or half tester bed.

Delicious dinners are served to order in Austwick Hall’s wood panelled dining room, where daily changing five-course menus major on what’s fresh and local. There’s a drawing room and inviting reception lounge to relax in, and a garden terrace for drinks in fine weather.

Outside, terraced gardens give way to woodlands carpeted in thousands of snowdrops in February, and bluebells in spring. Walks in the delectable Dales start directly from the front door, making this a perfect escape at the heart of Yorkshire’s most scenic corner.
